The standards we hold for every listing, article, event, and business partner on Madeira Kids — so families always get honest, accurate, family-first information.

Last updated: April 2026

These guidelines apply to all content published on Madeira Kids — including place listings, editorial articles, event listings, business partner profiles, and blogger contributions. By submitting any content to this platform, you agree to these standards. Questions? hello@madeirakids.com

Our Editorial Philosophy

Madeira Kids exists to help families — visiting or living on the island — discover the best the island has to offer without wasting time on places that were never designed with children in mind. Everything we publish is filtered through one question: would a parent with a young child actually find this useful?

That means we prioritise specificity over completeness. We would rather have 300 carefully described, verified, up-to-date listings than 3,000 entries scraped from a directory. If a place closes, changes its hours, or stops being family-friendly, we remove or update it. We hold every piece of content on this platform — whether written by our team, a partner blogger, or a business — to the same standard.

checklist

Standards for Place Listings

Every place listed on Madeira Kids must meet the following criteria:

  • arrow_forwardIt must be genuinely suitable for families with children aged 0–14. A restaurant that tolerates children is not enough — it should have space, some patience, and ideally a kids' menu or high chairs.
  • arrow_forwardInformation must be accurate at the time of publication. This includes opening hours, pricing, contact details, and accessibility notes.
  • arrow_forwardListings must include at least a brief description of why the place works for families — not a marketing summary copied from the business's own website.
  • arrow_forwardAccessibility information (step-free access, changing facilities, shaded seating, parking) should be included wherever available.
  • arrow_forwardPhotos must represent the actual experience. Overly staged or misleading images are not accepted.

Listings submitted by business partners through our Partnerships programme are clearly labelled as partner listings. This labelling is non-negotiable — sponsored content is always disclosed.

Standards for Editorial & Blog Content

Articles, guides, itineraries, and news pieces published on Madeira Kids — whether written by our in-house team or by approved partner bloggers — must meet the following standards:

  • arrow_forwardContent must be original. We do not republish press releases, AI-generated text submitted without meaningful human editing, or content recycled verbatim from other sources.
  • arrow_forwardAll factual claims must be verifiable. If you state a beach is safe for toddlers, you must have visited it with that lens. If you reference prices or opening hours, you must have confirmed them recently.
  • arrow_forwardContent must be genuinely useful to families. Opinion is welcome; vague generalities are not. "Madeira is beautiful" tells a parent nothing. "The natural pools at Porto Moniz are calm enough for children under 5 on most summer days" is the kind of detail that helps.
  • arrow_forwardPaid partnerships must be disclosed in the article using the standard disclosure language we provide. Undisclosed paid promotion is grounds for immediate removal and suspension of the contributor's account.
  • arrow_forwardContent must be respectful of local culture, environment, and the communities that live on the island. Madeira is not a backdrop for content — it is home to over 250,000 people.

Standards for Business Partners

Businesses listed through our paid Partnerships programme have the ability to enrich their listings with photos, services, event announcements, and promotional content. With that comes responsibility:

  • arrow_forwardAll information you publish must be accurate and kept up to date. Incorrect hours or pricing that leads to a frustrated family arrival reflects on Madeira Kids — and we will remove listings that are repeatedly inaccurate.
  • arrow_forwardPhotos must be your own or properly licensed. Do not upload images you do not have the right to use.
  • arrow_forwardEvent listings must correspond to real, confirmed events. Placeholder or speculative listings are not permitted.
  • arrow_forwardYou may describe your business in a positive light, but marketing copy must not be misleading. Claims like "the best in Madeira" or "the only family option" are only acceptable if they are demonstrably true.
  • arrow_forwardDiscount offers and promotional content must reflect real, active offers — not expired promotions used as bait.
  • arrow_forwardAny change to your business — closure, seasonal hours, ownership change, major renovation — must be communicated to us via hello@madeirakids.com so we can update or remove your listing promptly.

Standards for Blogger & Creator Contributions

Approved bloggers and family travel creators who contribute content through our Partnerships programme are trusted voices. We value that trust and expect contributors to uphold it:

  • arrow_forwardWrite from genuine, first-hand experience. If you have not personally visited a place with your family, you may not present your content as a personal recommendation.
  • arrow_forwardClearly differentiate between experiences you paid for yourself and those provided by a business partner or by Madeira Kids.
  • arrow_forwardDo not make safety claims — about beaches, hiking trails, or activities — unless you have direct, recent experience and are not overstating them. A trail that is fine for an experienced 10-year-old may not be appropriate for a 4-year-old.
  • arrow_forwardYour content may be edited by our team for clarity, accuracy, or length. We will always seek your approval for substantive changes.
  • arrow_forwardContent that is found to be plagiarised, fabricated, or that promotes a business without appropriate disclosure will be removed immediately and the contributor relationship terminated.

Content That Is Never Accepted

Regardless of the source or context, the following content will be removed and may result in account suspension:

  • arrow_forwardContent that is false, fabricated, or materially misleading about a location, business, or experience.
  • arrow_forwardHate speech, discrimination, or content that demeans any person or group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.
  • arrow_forwardContent targeting, exploiting, or putting children at risk in any way.
  • arrow_forwardSpam, bulk submissions, or automated content generation without meaningful human curation.
  • arrow_forwardContent promoting illegal activities or businesses operating without the required licences in Portugal/Madeira.
  • arrow_forwardDefamatory claims about businesses or individuals.
  • arrow_forwardUndisclosed paid promotions in any content type.

Keeping Information Current

One of the most common frustrations for travelling families is arriving somewhere based on outdated information. We take this seriously.

Our team actively reviews listings and content for accuracy. If you notice that a listing is out of date — a business has closed, hours have changed, a beach has become less suitable for families — please let us know at hello@madeirakids.com. We commit to reviewing flagged content within 5 business days.

Business partners are contractually required to notify us of any material changes to their listing details. Failure to do so is grounds for temporary suspension of the partner listing.

How to Report a Concern

If you believe any content on Madeira Kids violates these guidelines — whether a listing, article, event, or business profile — please contact us at hello@madeirakids.com with the subject line "Content Report" and a link to the content in question.

We investigate all reports with care and discretion. We do not share the identity of those who report concerns. Our goal is always to protect the quality and trustworthiness of the platform — for families, for our business partners, and for the island.
